2017-04-18Staff Report 2 Staff Reporter Windhoek Large parts of the country have so far had average to above average rainfall for which the farmers are very grateful. The rainy season started with a pattern where it rained in some parts and in some regions only sporadically. It seems as if this pattern has persisted during the rainy season and that some farms still suffer at this stage with regard to pasture. The latest chart of ‘namibiarangeland’ confirms this pattern. Regions which are mostly affected are the far south, parts of the south-west, parts of Khomas Hochland and the north-west. Dordabis Farmers Association came up with the idea that farmers who are willing to cut the grass near the road to give it to farmers who are suffering the most with regard to pasture. The Namibian Agricultural Union (NAU) confirmed last Thursday that it is prepared to facilitate farmers associations which are willing to take part in such a project. Associations are requested to contact the office if they are willing to help their fellow farmers so that the logistics can be done. Farmers in real need are welcome to contact the office so that it can establish a database. Members of the NAU are also encouraged to offer grazing to farmers in need in the weekly ‘Smalls’ of the NAU.
