Students appreciate MTC bursaries
Windhoek Students from the University of Namibia and the Polytechnic of Namibia are in unison about their appreciation of  bursaries they have been awarded by the Mobile Telecommunication (MTC) to further their studies at the two respective institutions in different fields. MTC recently awarded bursaries to nine under-graduate students from the two local institutions. Raxia Shalulange one of the beneficiaries who is to further her study in Bachelor of Engineering Electronic and Telecommunication, says she is very proud to be a Namibian. “This entails that even [someone] from a financially disadvantage family and willing to shape [her/his] life especially in the academic world, there is always a helping hand like MTC. This means a lot to me and I am left with no words on how to appreciate MTC for this opportunity. I am very grateful, thus I intend to work smarter to show my appreciation and portray a great example to my nation,” says Shalulange. Erastus Tuhafeni, another recipient, says  a bursary to him is not a want but a need. “I really can’t contain the joy for this privilege. I am always happy when companies such as MTC invest in capacity building. I will use this helping hand to acquire the necessary skills to fight for my country’s economic emancipation and will also make sure my academic record remains outstanding,” Tuhafeni determines. Speaking at the Bursary Handover Ceremony the Deputy Minister of Higher Education, Training and Innovation, Becky Ndjoze-Ojo, said she is glad MTC has chosen to be associated with those who are financially vulnerable in the society but who have the potential, zeal and resolve to succeed in life. She continued saying MTC views this as playing a greater role in home grown talent and assists in the procurement of skills to enable people to contribute to the success of Namibia. “Whilst we recognise the importance of incentivising youths, MTC also has a deliberate programme tailor-made for internal employees to enable its workforce to go for further training where needed,” said Ndjoze-Ojo.
