Suspected robber shot dead
Katima Mulilo A 61-year-old man identified as Freddy Kasungo faces a charge of murder after he allegedly shot and killed 19-year-old Mashule Maybin Musipili, a Zambian national. The killing took place last Saturday at Masokotwane. According to information obtained from the police, the accused followed the trail of people he suspected to have broken into his shop the previous night near his village at Makolonga. After he arrived at Masokotwane, the accused is said to have met the deceased with his friend and when he wanted to enquire about footprints he had trailed, the friend of the late Zambian national fled the scene dropping his mobile phone. Kasungo then proceeded to pick up the phone but this was met with resistance from the deceased as the two wrestled for the phone, leading up to the shooting. Details are sketchy as to whether Kasungo intentionally shot the deceased or the gun had gone off accidentally in the scuffle. Musipili died on the way to hospital. Kasungo, who returned last year from the Dukwe refugee camp, appeared in court on Monday and he faces a single count of murder. He was granted bail of N$10 000 with conditions attached. Conditions are that he should not interfere with state witnesses at Masokotwane, he should report two times a week at the Masokotwane police camp, surrender his travelling documents and get special permission before leaving the Zambezi Region. His case was postponed to November 19 2015 for further police investigations and to allow Kasungo time to enlist the services of a lawyer. Karl Muyeghu presided while prosecutor George Matali appeared for the State.
