Swakop to host Africa’s cultural and fashion show
Windhoek For the very first time in the history of the African’s Finest Cultural & Fashion Show (AFCFS), one of the national and international entertainment fashion event will be taking place at the coast. This followed the  third season of the event held earlier this year in London, during the African Fashion Week. The fourth annual fashion show will be hosted on December 22 at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre. “We have chosen this particular venue because Swakopmund is the place to be in December and there is no better place compared to that in Swakopmund. To top things up, it is really convenient because it’s spacious and it has a variety of activities in the entertainment centre. I could not have thought of a better place,” says Eva Miarka, the London based designer and founder of AFCFS. The fourth show is aimed at emerging designers as a platform for growth, as well as the establishment of well-placed networks within the African and International fashion industry. Eva believes that fashion is not something that exist in dresses only, as the fashion industry is always looking for new talents, and what better way than showcasing it at Namibia’s biggest fashion event of the year. “We have some very exciting programmes coming up. We are also going to have a competition during the show whereby we will be selecting winners and they will win N$ 10 000 in cash price. The winners will than share the N$10, 000 among themselves-Best Designer Evening Wear, Best Designer Ready to Wear - Best Designer Menswear,” she says adding that up to ten international designers, and over 18 international models are expected at the show. During the event, each designer is going to showcase his or her 12 garments. “We are going to have a special exhibition where a variety of people are going to showcase their accessories such as sunglasses and perfumes,” says Eva. “This event is all about giving upcoming and other designers a chance to showcase their collections to the large crowd. As a child I always wanted to do fashion, not particularly be a model but to be a designer. And I thought what better way to showcase my talent and dreams than a fashion show,” says Eva. Normal tickets for the show are N$ 150 and N$300 for VIPs tickets. Doors will be opening at two O’clock in the afternoon (14h00).
