2008-04-03Staff Report 2 "By Staff Reporter WINDHOEK Swabou Life once again reaffirmed its unwavering commitment towards the development of sport, swimming in particular, when it injected a whopping N$50 000 into the annual SWABOU Swim for Life project at the beginning of this year. And last weekend witnessed yet another successful SWABOU Swim for Life event that took place at the Western Suburbs swimming-pool in Katutura, drawing a total of 350 swimmers. The Marketing Manager for Swabou Life, Vido Tjozongoro, said that the primary objective of the event is to create general awareness of swimming and encourage the nation to get involved in the discipline of swimming. ""Swabou Life has been involved with this particular event since 1992 and we would like to encourage thousands of people from all walks of life to get their feet wet."" The Swabou Life marketing manager added that despite the poor weather conditions, the event turned out to be successful with an overwhelming attendance figure. Swimmers stroked their way in various distances ranging from the 100 to 5, 000 meters depending largely on the individual fitness level. Afterwards all swimmers received badges of recognition, signifying the distance they swam. Swabou Life extended a word of gratitude towards the Namibian Swimming Union for hosting another successful event. Tjozongoro said that swimming is not just another sport - it is the type of sport that requires and instills discipline in children from early childhood. ""This type of discipline has the potential to spill over to the academic level of our children and to some extent, older people have also been afforded the opportunity to join in the fun."" The Swabou Swim for Life project will be enhanced by the new concept - the Learn to Swim initiative - that will be introduced and sponsored under the Swabou Life banner.
