2015-10-29Staff Report 2 Windhoek A teary-eyed Kilus Nguvauva, councillor of Okorukambe constituency, thanked voters this week for keeping him at the helm of the constituency since 1998 and vowed to render a helping hand where he can if requested to do so in future. “... I’m open to rendering my services,” said Nguvauva, who was clearly emotional as he spoke of the confidence the electorate bestowed on him over the past 17 years. He was the first Swapo leader to be elected constituency councilor of Okorukambe, which until recently was known as Steinhausen. Nguvauva, who is also the deputy minister of works and chief of the Ovambanderu, shed a few tears when he spoke of the electorate’s confidence in him. “…The way they voted for me… the trust and the confidence they bestowed on me makes me emotional,” he said, adding that his heightened emotions were not fueled by the fact that he will no longer be contesting for the coveted position of councilor. Asked about his future plans, Nguvauva said: “I will cross that bridge when I get there and you are welcome to come back at the end of the year to ask me that again.” Nguvauva used the opportunity to commend the ruling Swapo Party for giving him a chance to serve his community and country. Furthermore, Nguvauva, who is known for his role in mediating in farm labour disputes in the Omaheke Region, said he was proud of the contribution he has made. He noted that among the contributions he made during his time in office, he is particularly proud of a motion he tabled in the National Assembly for Gam and Eiseb Block residents to receive national documents.
