Tension Grips NUNW
"By William J. Mbangula OSHAKATI Political tension within the NUNW-affiliated unions has spilled over to the regions ahead of the federation's congress next month. The tension has resulted in some unions being evicted from a NANTU building for alleged defaulting. Three NUNW affiliated unions, NAPWU, NATAU and NAFAU were operating from the building of the teachers' union NANTU but as from this week have been evicted due to a simmering row. NAPWU's Deputy General Secretary Gabes Andumba confirmed the matter to New Era. Although he did not want to discuss the matter in detail, he said it is related to an unpaid water account of N$4 000 that NANTU wants the public service union to settle. ""All along NAPWU has been paying its dues,"" said Andumba. NANTU Regional Representative Victor Hamunyela only confirmed that some of the unions have left, while others are preparing to leave over some disagreements that he did not specify."
