THE FEEDBACK: MINISTRY OF SPORT, YOUTH AND NATIONAL SERVICE
Query: About the benefits of the youth in our country: Can the minister of youth tell us what’s going on at the National Youth Council? Why was the training programme in the Youth Leadership Development Programme called off while it was already budgeted for? Response: The Youth Leadership Development Program emanates from a trilateral cooperation agreement signed between the Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service (MSYNS), National Youth Council (NYC) and the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in respect of youth leadership training and development in Namibia. The partners share a responsibility for the implementation of various aspects of the program, with the annual training of trainers being one of the key components in the agreement. The Youth Leadership Development Program (YLDP) Training of Trainers was scheduled to be held in Swakopmund as from 21 – 22 October 2016. The budget constraints being experienced in government also affected the SOEs and this has been the primary factor which led to the last minute cancellation of this Program. The Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service is experiencing budget cuts and this inadvertently leads to delayed transfer of funds to SOEs under its ambit, resulting in uncertainties in which programmes to pursue. Consequently, the National Youth Council management resolved to cancel the Youth Leadership Development Program. • Ms. Aina L.M. Shikesho, Chief Public Relations Officer , Ministry of Sport, Youth and National Service, Contact Number: 061 270 6528.
