The Namibian Report Had It All Wrong
IN its edition of 29th January 2008, The Namibian newspaper carried an article in which it is alleged that, I Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, stood for the position of Secretary for Health at the recent meeting of the SWAPO Party Central Committee and lost the elections with 9 votes against 56. I want to make it categorically clear that I never had an intention to stand for the post in question. Secondly, no one ever approached me, before or after the nomination to confirm my availability as it is a normal practice not only in SWAPO party but in any civilised institution. The office of the Secretary General of SWAPO Party is fully aware that I was not going to attend the meeting, as I would be out of the country. However, anyone who could be sincere on the matter would have contacted me through my office at the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting or through the State House as all my travelling outside the country are authorised by H. E. the President of the Republic of Namibia. I have joined SWAPO that is now changed to SWAPO Party, consciously and no one should try to ridicule me, and the principles I set for myself. May I also use this opportunity to thank delegates to the 4th Congress for the confidence they placed in me to serve for the next five years as a Member of the Central Committee of SWAPO Party. As I have done in the past, I will continue to serve them to the best of my ability in the interest of my SWAPO Party and the people of Namibia.
