Three children drown during Easter weekend

The lifeless body of Maria Ndilimeke was discovered floating in the water on Saturday.

According to Omusati regional commander Titus Shikongo, Ndilimeke (3) was one of three children who died due to drowning during the Easter weekend.

Shikongo said Ndilimeke drowned while she and other children were playing in a pond close to their homestead.

He said the incident occurred around 11h00 at Okathitu-kalyokotsandi village in
the Tsandi constituency. Her lifeless body was discovered floating on the water by the guardian upon her return from a local cuca shop.

In a separate incident, seven-year-old Ndemutila Natalia Indenga drowned on Friday around 16h00 while she was swimming in a water canal with other children.

The incident occurred at Otapatapa village in the Otamanzi constituency.

Alfeus Nghifikwa, a 16-year-old, also drowned in an earth dam on Saturday at about 15h00 at Omundaungilo in Ohangwena region.

“The deceased was in the company of his friend during the time of the incident,” the police said. Their next of kin have been informed.
