Thrills and spills at NTA School League competition

The Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) School League national competition this past weekend brought together the best schools per age groups from Khomas, Erongo and Otjozondjupa regions.

As part of the International Tennis Federation/NTA programme, the schools competed in U/10, U/12 and U/14 age groups at the Central Tennis Club and saw the country’s tennis youngsters delivering some blistering action.

Teams consisted of four players and one reserve as part of the team competition. The U/14 age group played this year on the full court with green dot balls that are slower and bouncing lower to get them ready for future national NTA tournaments.

Matches were played best out of 10 points. They played four singles and two doubles matches, with every team receiving three points for each win. Teams competed in a round-robin format.

The winning teams – girls and boys – in each age group received a trophy and medals.

The NTA Primary school League is an excellent platform for young players to start competitive tennis.

School League coordinator Joyce Zussino said she is happy to have new regions and schools joining the national competition, and said she would like to see more regions and schools in the league next year.

NTA president Samson Kaulinge thanked the organisers for running a successful event, saying he was impressed with in addition of the new schools at the nationals this year.
