Tigers pounce on Stars to reaffirm title credentials
Windhoek Tigers’ veteran gaffer Brian Isaacs says Friday’s 1-0 win over reigning champions African Stars was no fluke and should not be taken lightly. According to him, the crucial victory marked the beginning of a new era for the team under his mentorship. “Nobody gave us a chance going into Friday’s match and not just Friday’s game – but our overall excellent performance of late has gone unnoticed compared to other teams’ performances, such as of African Stars, Black Africa and Orlando Pirates, which I think is something good.” He added: “It is good because it puts us under no pressure or any expectations, so now our plan is to take it game by game and make sure the team grows stronger with every match. So far, we have proved that we can be serious title contenders this season and I’m really confident we can finish in the top-three come end of the season.” In the well-attended match at the Windhoek Independence Stadium, Tigers stole a late victory when midfielder Image Isaak’s second-half strike proved enough to carry Ingwenyama through, leaving Stars with the delicate act of reenergizing their league title defence efforts. “My plan is to bring back the good old days at the club and hopefully restore a measure of pride among all our supporters, which I think is attainable judging from my boys’ attitudes and the fans’ unwavering support for the players. But I’m confident we can finish top-three, if not win the league,” said a confident Isaacs.
