TransNamib’s Desert Express collides with truck
Windhoek TransNamib has confirmed that its Desert Express train was in an unfortunate accident just after 18h00 on Monday, September 14, near the Osona Military Base in Okahandja. The train apparently collided with a truck that was attempting to cross the railway. Struggle Ihuhua, the executive spokesperson of TransNamib, confirmed that the Desert Express did not derail in any way. “The crew and passengers on board were reportedly and fortunately unharmed. The TransNamib inspection team reported that the train suffered minor damage to the locomotive, although the extent of the damage is still unclear.” Ihuhua confirmed that the rail service between Okahandja and Windhoek, which was temporarily suspended, is now restored and open to enable the free flow of mixed train services from Windhoek to Walvis Bay. He said the recovery teams acted promptly on site in securing the speedy restoration of the line to enable rail transport services to proceed uninterrupted.
