Tribute song for slain fishermen

Local musician Zee (Zuluboy) has roped in fellow artists such as Guru, J Thugg, Mello, Lil G, Prince T, Kid M in the Zambezi region to record a song in solidarity with the recent fatal shooting of three Namibians and their Zambian cousin by the Botswana Defence Force (BDF).

Sbusiso Blessing Zulu told Entertainment Now! that the song is a tribute to the lost lives. “It’s also challenging the community to unite and fight these killings. Though the main issue at stake is #Stopthekilling...Another message on the song was a concern on the killings of fellow sisters, mothers and children due to GBV. So, the whole entire song is a Cry to the Nation,’’ he explained.

The song titled ‘Nation Cry’ was released last week when the family members met with President Hage Geingob who announced that a joint investigation between the two countries has been instituted into the shooting. Zulu said that the incident has brought so much tension and hatred between Botswana and the people of Namibia, above all serious trauma to the affected families, friends and the whole entire community. “It is a serious loss which needs to be rectified and looked at.

After all, we are Africans who are born from one womb, but we treat each other like animals and making these killings of human beings like it’s a TV game. On my side, I plead with our government to really take serious measures on the issue, because the community is not happy at all,’’ he stressed.

Artists from the region wish to be recognised as people who are part of the nation whereby their cries should be heard as well and taken into consideration.

He further urged that since we all come from different backgrounds, he strongly believes they can reach out to the victims’ family and the community at large by producing the ‘Nation Cry’-Tribute to the lost lives song. “Through a song, one receives healing and closure. We even donated some monies as musicians to the family. I believe there are other musicians who are also contributing a lot on the issue,’’ he ended.

The artists also released a music video on YouTube to support the release of the song.
A large crowd of demonstrators gathered last week Friday in Katima Mulilo as well as Windhoek in solidarity against the Botswana Defence Force.
