Truck carrying animal feed burns to ashes on Trans-Caprivi Highway
Nyondo A Scania truck with Swakopmund registration number (N600945S) caught fire at Nyondo village at about 20h45 on Friday night and burned to ashes after an initial tyre puncture that seemed to ignite the blaze. Nyondo village is some 90km east of Rundu in the Ndonga Linena Constituency of Kavango East Region. The truck which belongs to Van Der Walt Transport Company was travelling from east to west along the Trans-Caprivi Highway, carrying animal feed. It was driven by Zambian national Kelly Bubala, who furtunately managed to escape the blaze unscathed. It was reported to the police that the front right tyre of the truck had burst and started to burn, causing the truck to catch alight and burn to smithereens in the ensuing flames. “They only managed to rescue the rear trailer by removing the cargo and disconnecting it from the burning truck. No injuries, no passengers, only damage to the truck,” Kavango East, Police Detective Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo confirmed on Saturday.
