Margareth-Rose Kangootui

The collaboration between the University of Namibia and Bremen University of Germany continues to bear fruit under the academic exchange umbrella.

Since the inception of this collaboration in 2018, there have been remarkable activities.

It includes two project planning and funding submission workshops, which are ongoing; inclusive education curriculum development and curriculum revision activities in Namibia (ongoing); two University of Bremen staff and students visit the Unam; two Unam staff and students visit the University of Bremen; four online workshops and seminars involving postgraduate students and staff.

The latest development on this fruitful memorandum of understanding is the international summer school and staff workshop to be held from 29 August 2022 to 2 September 2022, hosted by the University of Bremen.

The Summer School is guided by the theme: ‘Diversity and Inclusion in Teacher Education’, and it will be attended by postgraduate students and staff from universities in Namibia, Botswana, Germany, Italy and Spain.

Three students and three staff members from Unam will attend the summer school and workshop.

The selection of students followed an arduous process.

After a rigorous application and selection process, the following Unam students, registered for the Masters in Education (Inclusive Education), were selected for participation: Elizabeth Katale (first-year student), Kahonde Tjipura (first-year student) and Helen Jasper (second-year student).

The three staff members are: Limo  Simasiku (Head of Department: Applied Educational Sciences; Cynthy Haihambo Ya-Otto (project coordinator and Inclusive Education lecturer and researcher), and Mirjam Sheyapo (lecturer and PhD student).

The Department of Applied Educational Sciences remains committed to contributing towards achieving the vision and mission of Unam through its engagement with both national and international stakeholders.
