Underground music fest to showcase new artists

Emilie Shimbali

It’s finally time for emerging artists to come from underground and shine on the stages of the world they belong. To make this happen, Simona Isaak is organising a spectacle, titled ‘Underground Music Festival’, on 30 April which will see 13 local upcoming musicians, including one from South Africa, showcase their talents.

Isaak told VIBEZ! the event is for upcoming artists from different genres, who usually only perform for friends and close family, because many a time, they don’t get an opportunity to expose their talents, as they are classified as “upcoming”.

The event is self-funded and organised by Isaak, who has a passion to improve the local entertainment industry.

She said: “The biggest artists were once upcoming. Therefore, I want to give upcoming artists a platform to perform, and not give up on their dreams and do wrong things. Everyone deserves a chance, so they can grow and become whatever they want to and can be,” she explained.

The event will take place at the Equipped Entertainment Studio in Windhoek.

The artists are from various corners of the country, and they include Malyenge, Weezy, Hezek and King Jay.

One of the participants from Windhoek, Valencia Hansen, who goes by the stage name of Miss_V, told VIBEZ! she will debut two gospel songs, called ‘My Heartbeat’ and ‘My God’.

Hansen expressed her excitement to network with other artists, adding that she is looking forward to entertaining the public with some throwbacks of well-known singers like Adora, Jericho and Gazza.

In the meantime, Walvis Bay’s Jxzzi, real name Josef Mathias, is also coming to expose his talent.

He said: “I am very happy that finally, I get to do something different. Wiz Khalifa once said, ‘it’s the best of times; it’s the worst of times’. This is the greatest motivation for my music career”.

“I decided to be part of the Underground Fest because I see this as a great opportunity to make the world know about my music. So excited and honoured about this,” said Esau Shikalepo, another participant.

Isaak is calling on the established artists to come support the new artists by attending the festival.

Tickets cost N$50.
