unWrap - Samoca reaching for the stars

Wilka Kayoko

Since bagging a Simply You Magazine Lifestyle and Fashion Award (SYMLAFA) for best male model, Mmoloki Samoca believes the sky is the only limit for him. He is now more determined than ever to expand his horizons in the modelling industry where he has kept his heart for quite some time.

“People and outside brands are becoming more aware of the importance of using models in their campaigns. We have three fashion weeks in the country now, which was not the case a few years back, ” he said.
For someone so determined to succeed he believes there is a need for versatility for one to survive the challenges of the modelling industry in Namibia.

“The trick is to distinguish yourself from other models to ensure you get opportunities that allow you to showcase your uniqueness,” he said.
Mmoloki kicked off his modelling career in 2017 after being scouted on Instagram by an agent from Ubuntu Modelling Agency. Reflecting on his career thus far, he describes it as having been a bittersweet experience and an opportunity for him to learn more about himself.

“I can say I have found a part of me in modelling, and a feeling of belonging. Every single time I have been on a runway, it feels as if I become a different person. Moreover, rejection is part of being a model. I have got more ‘No’ than ‘Yes’ but I have to keep on trying, “ he said.

The jovial model says his passion and desire to succeed are his two major drivers. Besides modelling, he is an aspiring chemical engineer. The Windhoek-based model said his SYMLAFA award serves as recognition for his hard work.
“I’ve always strived to be professional and to perform at my optimum. It is, therefore, humbling for me to be recognised for my efforts. I will forever be grateful to God, “ he concluded.
