US Spy Plane Over Maun
MAUN, Botswana An unmanned air vehicle (UAV) - commonly known as a spy plane - is operating over Maun and the Okavango delta and will be there for the next three weeks. There has been no official statement on why the UAV is in Maun airspace but it is believed it is being used by the Botswana Defence Force. Local pilots have all been advised of its presence. Speculation locally is that it could be the first stage of the new United States military project, AFRICOM, whose southern command is widely believed will be situated on Botswana territory. The UAV will fly for 18 hours a day and range to about 140km from Maun airport. It has to be in eye contact at all times. (Story courtesy of The Ngami Times, Botswana).
