US Star to Perform
By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK American singer, Hollywood film and television star Sheryl Lee Ralph - known for her portrayal of Dee in the hit series Moesha, -arrives in the country on Sunday for a five-day visit, it was announced in a press statement by the American Cultural Centre. Lee Ralph is known for her creation of the role of Deena Jones in the original Broadway production of the musical Dreamgirls, and for roles in Barbershop and To Sleep with Anger. Lee Ralph will perform her powerful and inspiring Sometimes I Cry for the public at the Warehouse Theater in Windhoek next Tuesday and at Windhoek High School the following day. Admission to both performances is free to the public, but tickets must be obtained in advance at the American Cultural Centre, 3rd Floor, Sanlam Building on Independence Avenue. Tickets will not be available at the door. The one-woman performance, written and performed by Lee Ralph, was inspired by the real life stories of women infected and affected by HIV/Aids. In the performance the actress becomes each character breathing life into them and their stories by exploring through word and song just how each woman copes with her new HIV/Aids reality. Sheryl will also meet health professionals, government, non-governmental organisations and women leaders, visit HIV/Aids community-based and faith-based organisations, meet journalists and hold a workshop for young Namibian actors at the College of the Arts.
