Veii Lifts Lid on Stadium Debacle
"By Carlos Kambaekwa WINDHOEK The Director of Sport in the Ministry of Youth, National Service, Sport and Culture Dr Vetumbuavi Veii has lifted the lid on controversies surrounding the dysfunctional Swakopmund Sports Complex after the stadium has gone under the hammer for a thorough facelift. At the centre of the storm is the non-availability of the modernized giant sport complex despite the stadium having been completed long ago, as it would appear in hindsight. Quizzed to shed more light as to why the state-of-the-art recreational facilities are left to rot while the Swakopmund and surrounding communities are itching to utilize the complex, Veii said: ""The constructors messed up big time, because you might recall that stadium has a staggering seating capacity of 5000 people, but sadly the ablution facilities do not match that figure, to say the least. ""In addition, that complex has two phases and there is an urgent need to complete the second phase before we can entertain any ideas of inaugurating the stadium and hand it over to its rightful owners, the Swakopmund Municipality."" Veii also lashed out at the Ministry of Works and Transport and Communication in what he called its tortoise-pace approach in sending out tenders for the second phase. He added that during an inspection tour of the field with the line Minister John Mutorwa, the ministry resolved to erect a security fence around the field and this process is yet to be completed. "
