A virtual experience: the Audi Virtual Cockpit
The third generation of the Audi TT Coupé has recently been introduced into southern Africa and along with its revolutionary design, it has also debuted the very latest in Audi technology – with the instrument cluster and MMI screen combined to form a central, fully digital unit called the Audi Virtual Cockpit. The Audi Virtual Cockpit sets new standards with its dynamic animations and precise graphics. The driver can toggle between two user interfaces (modes) by pressing the “View” button on the multifunction steering wheel. In Infotainment mode, a central window dominates the view – it offers a big stage for the navigation map or for lists in the Phone, Radio and Audio areas. In this mode, the tachometer and speedometer, appear as small round instruments on the left and right sides. In the Classic view, the middle window is smaller, and the instruments – with black scales, red needles and white numerals – are about as large as today’s instruments. Two toggle switches activate the navigation/map, telephone, radio and media menus. There are two buttons on both sides of the central rotary pushbutton, supplemented by a main menu and a back button. The driver can easily enter destinations using the touchpad on the top of the rotary pushbutton, which recognizes your personal handwriting. It is also possible to scroll through lists or zoom in on maps. The Audi Virtual Cockpit is a first for Audi in the new TT, however, will be available on all new models going forward, including the all-new Audi Q7 expected in southern Africa later this year. It is offered with 3G Navigation Plus as a standard feature on the Audi TT Coupé in southern Africa.
