Vulnerable children in North get a meal from Meatco
Windhoek As part of its corporate social responsibility Meatco recently donated food to orphans and vulnerable children (OVCs) at Uutapi and Ongwediva in northern Namibia. Corporate communication manager of Meatco Jethro Kwenani says children at the Sam Nujoma Multi-purpose Centre in Ongwediva (Oshana Region) and Uutapi Orphanage (Omusati Region) received donations that include a warm plate of food and some cool drinks. Meatco sales representative Griffith Uahindua recently visited the centre, where he made the donation in the presence of Lonia Nghuulikwa of the Ongwediva Town Council and Miriam Haipinge. More than 140 OVCs benefited from the kind gesture. The centre is a social arm of Ongwediva Town Council that is responsible for addressing the diverse socio-economic needs of the community. Apart from youth development activities, the centre also offers the Bright Future Afterschool Programme for OVCs, community wellness and care programmes, as well as youth development activities, to mention a few. The Bright Future Afterschool Programme is designed to provide a comprehensive curriculum for OVCs in a friendly, safe and caring environment. It offers educational support, such as homework assistance, music, art, knitting, sewing and basic computer classes. Psychological support includes activities like sport, a children’s club, group counseling, hygienic practices and a life-skills programme.
