WAD delegation off to Russia
"WINDHOEK – A delegation of ten women led by the Executive Director of the Women's Action for Development (WAD) Veronica De Klerk are attending the 20th Jubilee International Conference, which is convening under the theme ""Women Changing the World."" The conference will be held in St Petersburg in Russia starting on Wednesday and ends on Friday. Participants include the Deputy Minister of Health and Social Services, Petrina Haingura who will speak on the topic ""Women and State Management,” while De Klerk will address the topic ""Women Leaders in Politics and the Economy. The Minister of Gender Equality and Child Welfare, Rosalia Nghidinwah, will address the topic ""Gender Equality and Social Security."" The main theme of the conference is ""The Role of Women in Economic and Cultural Integration"" and its purpose is the promotion of co-operation of professional women in various fields at international and national levels. The conference is expected to be attended by female leaders from all over the world, including politicians, entrepreneurs, scientists and heads of public organizations from Russia, member countries of the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Baltic States, European countries, the USA, Asia and Africa. The conference has set itself the tasks of bringing professionally active women together from the Russian Federation and other parts of the globe in order to discuss conditions for their promotion to the level of decision-making in politics and the economy, as well as gender equality and social security. The participation of the WAD delegation is sponsored by the government of Sweden and the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA). Meanwhile, WAD has also expressed its sincere thanks to the sponsors and said the invitation is viewed as a noteworthy recognition of Namibia and the work it does at international level. ""For Women's Action in Development, it is of great significance for Namibian women to attend a conference of this magnitude, because of the vast opportunities it offers to share views with women at an international level, but also to gauge the levels of advancement of women from various countries and to learn from their experiences in overcoming challenges which women face in general,"" the WAD statement read.
