Walvis Bay honours two prominent businessmen
WALVIS BAY - The Walvis Bay Council honoured two prominent businessmen for their significant contributions to the unprivileged residents of the town. The two businessmen, John Savva and Wayne Hart, were honoured on Friday last week during a ceremony in which they presented yet another donation to the elderly residents. Savva gave a cheque of N$450 000 towards the Walvis Bay Mayoral Fund while Hart gave the council two mobile homes at Longbeach. Walvis Bay Mayor, Councillor Uilika Nambahu described Savva as a seasoned entrepreneur who had ploughed back into Namibia on numerous occasions, specifically to Walvis Bay. “There are too many examples and I would not be able to do justice by singling out just a few. But, Savva on behalf of his family recently pledged to donate one of his prime erven at Aphrodite Beach to the Mayoral Relief Fund so that the proceeds thereof be utilised for the expenses of those who are normally earmarked as beneficiaries of the fund,” she explained. However, the businessman instead of donating the erf, handed over a cheque of equal value to the mayor on Friday. The mayor explained that the move had saved the fund from engaging in a lot of administrative procedures and additional costs to effect the transfer of ownership. “We are obviously grateful and delighted at this gesture, which will go a long way in easing the hardships of those likely to benefit,” she said.
