WAPS wallops hapless Tsumeb Gymnasium… mouth-watering football also on the menu
"Windhoek The Windhoek Afrikaans Private School (WAPS) defeated the visiting Tsumeb Gymnasium by 58 points to 12 in the FNB Classic Clashes rugby match at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday. The tie saw both the Vigo Hero and FNB Classic Clashes man of the match awards wrapped up by members of the victorious side with Sanelle Ludwig (Vigo Hero) and Stefan Hattingh claiming the prestigious man of the match awards. This was the last rugby match of the 2016 FNB Classic Clashes and although action got off slowly, hosts WAPS were the first to register their name on the scoreboard, setting a splendid display of great rugby rarely seen in this neck of the woods through a commendable brand of attacking play, capitalizing on the few chances that came their way. WAPS were generally the more pro-active team on the field and were well-deserved winners of the match that served as one of the curtain raisers to the Windhoek Draught Welwitschias Currie Cup match against the visiting Western Province. The final matches of this year’s FNB Classic Clashes season will be wrapped up this weekend when the beautiful game of football takes centre stage. Traditional rivals Ongha Secondary and Nehale Secondary are to lock horns at the former sports grounds on Friday, while Okatana and Haudano secondary schools conclude the weekend’s lineup when the two schools confront each other at the Okatana football field.
