Warehouse comes alive with Jazz, Funk and Soul music
2016-08-05Staff Report 2 WINDHOEK Suzy Eises, Black Velvet and Slickartie are performing live jazz, funk and soul music tomorrow night in a show also featuring emcee/vocalist Stacey Adams at the Warehouse Theatre. “The show is all about collaborating and uniting three friends and artists who have a desire to share their musical journeys through live jazz, funk and soul music. Throughout the past year and this year, we have seen each perform, have always wanted to work together and now want to make it happen. We will be performing a few of our own original compositions as well as popular cover songs. The show is for people who love to hear the stories of three musicians with a deep desire for truth in this world. Our music is honest and we hope to speak to the souls of real live music lovers,” says Suzy. Suzy is a positive, young, aspiring Jazz musician. She attended a one year music course at the London Centre of Contemporary Music between 2009 and 2010. Suzy has worked with South African house DJ Groove Candi and featured on her debut track, ‘I decided’. She performed at the Old Mutual Jazz Encounters held in October 2011 sharing the stage with Jimmy Dludlu and Simphiwe Dana. Suzy started 2012 by opening for South African house sensation, Mi Casa at the Windhoek Showgrounds. She performs at numerous festivals and corporate events in Windhoek, Namibia. Suzy is currently studying Jazz Studies at Brigham Young University-Idaho in the United States. Suzy comes from two different cultures, Oshiwambo and Damara, and has lived in South Africa, England, Kenya, Germany and the USA. She says that this has helped her appreciate other cultures and their music. “I have always loved a wide range of music and wouldn’t like to stick to one genre. I love to experiment with all types of music,” she says. ‘Black Velvet’ also known as Emmanuel is a singer/songwriter with a love for jazz and acoustic blues. Black Velvet is embarking on a musical journey trying to find the sounds of his soul as he performs all over Windhoek together with Singer/Songwriter Slickartie and bassist Eli Eagles as the well-known trio ‘The Ells’. Artwell ‘Slickartie’ Neusu defiantly hails from the most modest beginnings but aims to rise to a much greater level with his art very popular in venues all around Windhoek. “I use my art and my voice to represent people and empower them.” 2016-08-05Staff Report 2
