Warrant of arrest out for accused child rapist
Windhoek Shiweda Shiweda, who stands accused of raping a minor, was a no-show in court on Monday. He also failed to give reasons for his absence. Both Shiweda and his lawyer (known to this reporter only as Uanivi) were not present in court for the hearing. Shiweda has been out on bail and was due to appear in court this week, which he failed to do. He was previously granted bail on a number of conditions that he did not adhere to. He was instructed to report every Monday and Friday to the Windhoek Police Station between 18h00 and 17h00 and not to directly or indirectly make contact with the complainant. He may also not interfere with ongoing police investigations in any way. During the last court hearing Shiweda informed the court that his lawyer would only be present when his case is goes to trial, as he does not have money to pay his legal counsel. Public Prosecutor Lesupani Tatelo Cuthbert on Monday told the court that the accused had been called to court about three times, then requested that the court issue a warrant of arrest against Shiweda, to ensure he stands trial. Shiweda is accused of raping a minor (name withheld) near Auasblick Mountains on July 22. It is alleged he forcefully had sexual relations with a minor under the age of 13. He reportedly also inserted multiple objects into the minor’s genitals. It is understood that the minor suffered permanent injuries and mental scars as a result of the attack. Magistrate Justine Asino said since the suspect failed to appear in court on Monday, a warrant for his arrest would be issued and his bail money forfeited to the State. Shiweda was out on bail of about N$8 000.
