WALVIS BAY – The family of murder victim, Shannon Wasserfall, has started an online protest to oppose bail being granted to her two murder accused siblings Azaan Madisia and Junior Mulundu.
The duo is expected to appear in the Walvis Bay Magistrate’s Court on 27 July. Madisia, a close friend of Wasserfall, the alleged mastermind of the crime is accused of killing and burying Wasserfall in a shallow grave at Walvis Bay last year with the help of Mulundu.
Madisia also reported Wasserfall missing on 9 April last year, seemingly in an attempt to cover up her alleged crime. However, the law caught up with Madisia when police traced an SMS that was sent to Wasserfall’s father and eventually led the police to her remains buried in a shallow grave, close to Dunes Mall, six months after she went missing.
The two, who have been in police custody since their arrest last year, were expected to apply for bail earlier this month. However, proceedings stalled after their legal representative called in sick, hence postponing their bail application.
Speaking to New Era yesterday on the protest, Wasserfall’s uncle Dennis Wasserfall said that they initially planned to protest during the bail applications, however, they could not do so as the Covid-19 public health regulations discourage public gatherings. “That is why we started mobilising family, friends and those touched by her senseless murder to take part in the online protest,” he explained.
He added they want to keep Wasserfall’s memory alive and remind the two accused how their selfish actions impacted Wasserfall’s loved ones.
“Hence we asked residents, and sympathisers to rather make short video clips appealing that the suspects don’t get bail,” he said.
He added anyone that who wants to take part in the online protest can send in a short video clip, highlighting why they don’t want the alleged perpetrators to be granted bail. He added that they have received overwhelming support from all over the world from those that have been following the case.
