Wear your lil black dress and crown with pride

Girl bosses believe 2022 is all about applying pressure, breaking biases and cementing themselves in society through storytelling.

These are among many topics to be discussed during the second annual ‘The Little Black Dress’ event at Avani Hotel in April.

It takes place under the theme ‘Own your thrown’. Yes, you read right, thrown, as in “thrones thrown away due to life’s challenges,” explained organiser Liezel Ndjaronguru, who is also the founder of Divas and Gents Fitness.

“Our crowns have been tilted and shifted many times, but we have met many women who have straightened our crowns along the way,” she said.

Ndjaronguru said ‘The little black dress’ event aims to empower women from different corners of the country, women from all walks of life, and with various titles to embody powerful confidence, strength and sophistication.

Asked about the meaning of black in the title of the event, she said: “Black is an incredibly strong colour, which is why it is often seen at formal and prestigious events, and it projects so much authority, arousing people’s senses with elegance, sensuality and power”.

This time around, the event will feature, among other speakers, reigning Miss Namibia Chelsi Shikongo, local queen of entrepreneurship Twapewa Kadhikwa, and founder of Poiyah Media Ilke Platt, who is also the event’s co-partner.

“It is important that women feel empowered. I think it’s a great initiative because, through this event, I will address the importance of owning your throne,” Shikongo said.

The event was hosted for the first time last year, which Ndjaronguru described as a huge success. She said they received an amazing turnout and feedback, and she can’t wait for the next one, promising that it will be bigger and better. emilienashea9@gmail.com
