Welwitschias going for the jugular against Kenya
2016-07-15Staff Report 2 Windhoek - Under whatever circumstances Namibia’s senior rugby fifteen – the Welwitschias – will tomorrow be expected to tame the visiting Kenyans and make sure their Africa Cup Division 1A campaign continues unhindered. The Welwitschias are in high spirits and equally still very much fresh from their Africa Cup opening 40-31 victory over Uganda a few weeks ago, hence they will be aiming to pick up where they left off, so the Kenyans had better be advised to tighten their boot laces as a serious battle is in the offing at the Hage Geingob Stadium tomorrow. The home team boasts quality players, with most plying their trade internationally and have first-hand experience as far as competing at this level is concerned. After the Uganda victory a couple of weeks back, coach Phil Davis expressed great satisfaction with the level of coordination of the squad, saying they will grow in confidence with every win that comes and equally possess enough ammunition to go all the way. Namibia, who will after Saturday’s clash face Zimbabwe on August 6, also here in Windhoek, is pooled in Division 1A along with Kenya, Uganda and Zimbabwe. Division 1A serves as the highest division in the competition as the winner of the division is crowned the African champion. The Africa Cup is an annual rugby union tournament involving African nations, organised by Rugby Africa since 2000.
