Woman arraigned after jewellery goes missing
2016-07-06Staff Report 2 Windhoek A 29-year-old woman appeared in court on Monday on a charge of theft for allegedly stealing jewellery worth N$125 000 from her employer. Johanna Paulus, who was apparently employed as a domestic worker at the house of Henriette Kirsten in Ludwigsdorf, allegedly committed the offence last month during the period June 6 to June 30. She was arrested last Friday. Among the missing items are two gold necklaces with pendants containing diamonds valued at N$10 000, one gold pendant with two blue tourmalines worth N$30 000 and one gold tennis bracelet with diamonds valued at N$10 000. A gold bangle worth N$10 000 and a gold band with green tourmaline worth N$15 000 are also among the allegedly stolen items. The missing jewellery further comprise a gold necklace with green tourmaline worth N$15 000, a set of gold earrings with one carat diamonds worth N$15 000, and one set of pipe-shaped gold earrings with diamonds worth N$5 000. One set of teardrop-shaped earrings with diamonds worth N$5 000, a set of pretty-woman earrings worth N$5 000 and one gold chain necklace worth N$5 000 round off the loot, it is alleged. Only the tennis bracelet has been recovered so far, the magistrate was informed by Prosecutor Erastus Hatutale. Paulus was not asked to plead to the charges and indicated to Magistrate Ndapewa Amadhila that she would apply for legal aid after she was informed of her legal rights. Her bail was set at N$20 000 and the case was postponed to October 6 for further investigations and her legal aid application.
