Woman disrupts president’s meeting
Omuthiya A seemingly mentally disturbed woman disrupted President Hage Geingob’s town hall meeting in Omuthiya on Monday when she stormed into the church demanding to speak to the president in person. Outside the meeting there was chaos with people trying to get a glimpse of the unfolding drama as members of the police scuffled with the young woman. Those in the church, where the meeting took place, were also seen peeping through the windows to see what was going on outside. The president was in the Oshikoto Region to consult with the people on how to fight poverty and develop Namibia. Dressed in a green dress with a bottle of water in her hand, the woman first refused to take orders from the police to move from where she was seated. After several pleas she was pushed out of the church by the police, but that did not deter her. She fought the police, refusing to be touched or moved and the police had to use force to move her a distance from the church door. During the scuffle she appealed to the police to free her, insisting she was not mentally disturbed. “I am not sick, and I am not going to be injected or be taken to hospital. All I want is to tell the president my problems,” said the young unnamed woman. However, residents from Omuthiya present at the meeting later said the police confirmed the woman was mentally unstable. She was removed by the police and taken to Ward 16 but it seems she was released after she threatened to kill herself. Onlookers said the same woman was later spotted at Nampost speaking to herself.
