2013-10-25Staff Report 2 USAKOS - Former estate agent, Letty Kamati, has joined the scores of women entering the construction industry. With an experience spanning 15 years in real estate Kamati has landed construction tenders from the government and the private sector. Kamati’s company just completed the construction of a medical clinic at Usakos for the Ministry of Health and Social Services. She does admit that venturing into the male dominated construction industry was not easy as she had to prove she can deliver quality work. “It took everything to set up the business. Let me rather say that [I] invested everything to make this business a success. But it is worth it,” Kamati told New Era. According to her the clinic is not the first facility her company has successfully completed. “We also built apartments and another health centre in the north,” she said. Kamati started as a property manager and financial consultant for a major local company, responsible for the management of the company’s property portfolio, devising strategies to ensure maximum return of real estate investments. These included decisions to acquire, dispose, develop and redevelop assets. She initiated multi-million dollar development projects and oversaw their implementation. It was then that she developed a passion for the construction and renovation sector. In 2001, she started with her first construction business, a close corporation, and has since started another business called New Leaf Investment, that also offers other services in the real estate and property market.
