Young Namibian singer acclaimed in SA
"By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK Young Namibian singing sensation, Ruan de Waal has done it again, walking away with two gold medals and six silvers at the recently held Performing Arts festival in Rustenburg, South Africa. The young lad who was featured in Art/Life last year made huge strides in his musical career since he enrolled for music lessons in Cape Town with the assistance of his manager-mother, Joana de Waal. ""My son reached the semi-final in the competition whilst studying in Cape Town. He was selected and participated in 10 music and singing categories at the final on May 4. Ruan particularly enjoyed taking part in the gospel, country, jazz, world music and rap singing,"" Joana told Art/Life telephonically. According to Joana, her son has also been selected to go to America as part of a South African team. ""He looks very much forward to attending the annual music competition in Los Angeles in August this year. Ruan was forced to compete under the Western Cape flag due to a lack of Namibian interest in the music competition in Rustenburg. Now he has been selected and will represent South Africa in America,"" she said."
