2016-06-13Staff Report 2 Windhoek The Young Warriors lost 2-0 against South Africa on Saturday to crash out of the 2017 CAF U-20 African Cup of Nations qualifiers during their round two 2nd leg match at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg. The visitors were on the back foot from the start and only came into the game after 15 minutes, but it was not too long before SuperSport United striker Fagrie Lakay scored from the penalty spot in the 25th minute after Warriors defender Baloyi Tsandib handled the ball in the box. Tsandib was then substituted with an ankle injury after an awful fall after going for a header. Petrus Kamati came on for Tsandib and did a decent job at the back, but South Africa was not to be disturbed in their play as they enjoyed more movement in midfield and pushed for a 1-0 halftime lead. In the second half, Namibia came out better and McCartney Nawaseb ballooned one over the top after finding space in the box. Playmaker Venovineja Tjikundi had to leave the field due to an ankle injury, with Anthony Kham coming on for him. Reggie Willemse also made way for Bonni Paulino Junior as Namibia looked to create chances for themselves. South Africa finally made it 2-0 through Liam Jordan of Bidvest Wits. “We worked hard and tried our best. But a handful of players did not come to the party and that was our downfall. It’s now time to rest but not too much as we have the U/20 Cosafa Cup later in the year.
