2016-06-09Staff Report 2 Windhoek The conclusion of a retrenchment agreement between the Zambezi Waterfront Tourism Park (ZWTP) and the Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) will see 42 workers leave the company with effect from June 07, 2016, while the remaining 15 employees will stay on until August 31, 2016. The remaining team of 15 employees have been tasked with assisting the acting chief executive officer during the transitional period, while the company pursues options for public-private partnership (PPP). The board and management of the ZWTP announced the successful conclusion of the retrenchment negotiations with NAPWU, which is the sole bargaining agent of ZWTP workers. The negotiation process, which began over a month ago, has culminated in an amicable settlement and agreement signed by the parties on Tuesday this week. In a statement released on Tuesday, the ZWTP and NAPWU wished all the affected workers well and also applauded government which has given an undertaking, through the minister of environment and tourism, to help with the integration of the affected workers into other available job opportunities in the public sector. “The board believes that the transition to a PPP business model will enable the company and private investors to create more and better sustainable employment opportunities in the region. In the coming weeks the company will call for expression of interests for PPP, and investors and tourism operators and concessionaries are encouraged to be on the lookout,” reads a statement. 2016-06-09Staff Report 2
