A Windhoek man was left with an injury to his eye and head and bruises on his body after robbers attacked him and his friend on Friday evening. The robbers also damaged his vehicle and stripped them of their clothes, leaving them naked in the street.

The victim Francois Olivier was with a friend who also got stabbed in the leg. The incident happened while the two were driving from Otjomuise through Khomasdal’s new extension, using a back road to Vaalhoek, an area in Khomasdal as well.

“I find it difficult to sleep at night because every time I close my eyes I see, feel and hear them,” Olivier told New Era yesterday afternoon.

Olivier also sustained bruises to his arms, legs and a knife wound on his leg as well.
Olivier said that he was driving through a back road behind the new Khomasdal extension on their way to Vaalhoek when the robbers pounced on them.

“I came to an area that was completely dark, and I turned into [a street that was illuminated by street] lights but this road led to a dead end. So as I was reversing and turning, attackers threw stones at the car. I got frightened, the car switched off and while struggling to start the vehicle the attackers smashed the window and grabbed the key out of my hand,” Olivier narrated.

He said one of the attackers had a knife in his hand which he held at his neck. “It happened so fast, they stripped us naked. They took everything, my watch, cellphone, and N$250 plus a blazer I had on. They threw my clothes back at me after I literally begged them,” related Olivier, adding that he was busy opening a police case yesterday afternoon.

He said that he was disappointed in the police because from about 100 metres they ran to the police to whom they related the incident and showed the direction the attackers ran but received “no further assistance”.

“They [police] left us there to go look for the robbers, but never came back to check up on us. We were there for two hours waiting for the police to come back or at least call their team members to come check on us … nothing. As traumatized as we were with blood streaming from my head, we were left to find our own way,” said Olivier.

Reports of incidences of this nature have been making the rounds on social media, as victims share their ordeal of being attacked at night while driving around Windhoek’s suburbs.
