A 42-year-old man fatally shot himself in the chest with a firearm on Sunday afternoon in the bush at Oshikoto Lake near Tsumeb.
The deceased, Franscicos Gariseb, shot himself in the right side of the chest. The details as to what led to the shooting are not known.
Community liason officer in Oshikoto Region Chief Inspector Stephan Nuuyi said Gariseb had asked his wife to take care of the children shortly before he died. His wife is said to have rushed to the scene, but was too late to save her husband.

“He was still alive when the wife arrived at the scene. He just informed her to take care of the children and died,” Nuuyi said. His next of kin have been informed and the police have opened an inquest at Tsumeb. Investigations into the matter continue.

Still in Oshikoto Region, six people were injured on Sunday evening after the car they were travelling in overturned on a hill about 20 km from Tsumeb en route to Otavi.

According to Chief Inspector Nuuyi, it is suspected that the driver of a dark grey Amarok lost control of the vehicle, causing it to overturn. Six people sustained minor injuries and were rushed to the hospital. The driver escaped unhurt.
Traffic officers were called upon to more stringently regulate traffic on that particular stretch of road.
