LÜDERITZ – The Namibia Community Skills Development Foundation (Cosdec) in Lüderitz last Saturday signed a memorandum of understanding  (MoU) with Oruhapo Property Solution cc for skills training of young people. The MoU was signed at the Benguela Cosdec centre in the town.

In terms of the MoU six youths will initially be trained after which the programme will be extended to other beneficiaries after every four months.

Head of the Cosdec centre Suzan Ndjaleka who is also the mayor said the training is aimed at empowering youth by equipping them with brick-laying skills, plastering, welding and fabrication, plumbing and pipefitting, hospitality, office administration and computer literacy.

She said the signing of the MoU between Benguela Cosdec and Oruhapo Property Solution will make them smart partners in stimulating job creation, promotion of internships and training during the mass housing project. About 227 houses will be built in Lüderitz and Oruhapo Property Solution will build more than 100 homes as part of the scheme.

She said the benefits for the youth would be numerous in terms of skills transfer and job creation.

“It is important for the youth organizations and the government to continue supporting skills and vocational training. In so doing we will have a skilled nation and the community must join hands with us to have many of the out-of-school youth trained,” Ndjaleka said.

Malcolm Ndjiharine a partner in Oruhapo Property Solution stated the company is ready to transfer skills to the youth though Benguela Cosdec.

In terms of the MoU training will start in September.

He said the youths would be trained so that they can qualify for jobs on the mass housing scheme in Lüderitz.
