Jovanko on stage, Chef Greyton in the kitchen

When it comes to food, Jovanko Greyton knows how to bring the heat and have you come back to savour his different flavours.

This all-rounded chef knows how to serve immaculate and mouth-watering dishes – from pastry to grill – changing the food culture and making it more of a norm.

Greyton, a chef de cuisine who sits at the peak of his line, has also worked with British chef Marco Pierre White – the man who trained the renowned chef Gordon Ramsay.

Additionally, he also worked alongside many other great personages, including Australian chef George Calombaris of ‘Master Chef Australia’. Now the executive chef at Berrylicious Restaurant, Greyton was also involved in events such as the Good Food and Wine Show.

Moreover, he won a Standard Bank cook-off competition which took place in Windhoek recently and also displayed his cooking prowess at the Tapanayki Experience, which was hosted by the Taste Modern Eatery a few weeks back.

In the industry, Greyton (26) has been at it since 14 years old and has over 11 years of experience. He studied the art of food and cooking for three years in Cape Town and worked as a sous chef in a Michelin Star restaurant in the capital of Portugal, Lisbon.

What led to his cooking prestige was his mother, but he was also inspired by chef Jamie Oliver and then found more inspiration from Ramsay.

In the world of music, Greyton only goes by Jovanko. He delivers his sound through R&B, rap and alternative hip-hop.

His first hit project was ‘Lucid Dreams’, an album released in 2018. This album made waves regardless of the fact that no cover art had been done. His second hit album was ‘Sagittarius’ in 2020.

Greyton’s latest work this year, ‘Tropical Thunder’, has his fans and music lovers electrified.

“It’s making a lot of noise; looks like it’s a hit!” he said.

The artist is set to drop an album soon with his friend Waters, featuring Ian Lovly. The collaborative album is titled ‘Sixteen’. A single from this album is called ‘Tropical Thunder’.

Other works by him are two mixtapes - ‘Four pack and sturn’, and two singles - ‘Take a risk’ and ‘Oxford, featuring Morenga.

Regarding awards, Greyton said he has never been motivated to get a NAMA as he does not feel it has great significance like other big awards in other countries.

“I don’t have any, but soon I will.”

Asked what he has in store for his fans he said: “That one is a secret for now but great things are coming. As the new work only started rolling out now, I’d say just keep a look out for Jovanko and Waters”. - emariahaipinge@gmail.com
