Martial arts game results in death

An Angolan man was arrested after a martial arts game at a traditional wedding went terribly wrong, resulting in the death of one of the participants at Ongolonongeyama village in the Ruacana constituency.

The victim (30) was allegedly punched with a fist during the game on Wednesday afternoon.

Oshana police chief Commissioner Titus Shikongo said the victim collapsed and the police were summoned to the scene.

“The deceased was transported by the police from the scene in an unconscious condition to Omonawatjihozu health centre for treatment.

Unfortunately, he was declared dead by the nurses upon arrival at the clinic,” said Shikongo.

He was identified as Petrus Movilongo from Ongolonongeyama. His next of kin have been informed. In Oshana, a 17-year-old learner from the Ekwafo Secondary School in Oshana was fatally hit by a car yesterday morning.

The victim was allegedly crossing the main road between Ongwediva and Oshakati at around 06h39 when the incident occurred.

Police spokesperson in Oshana, Inspector Thomas Aiyambo said the deceased died at the scene.

The victim was identified as Monica Kathindi. Her next of kin have been informed. The police urged motorists to be extra vigilant, especially during peak hours both in the morning and afternoon.

“Always give right of way to pedestrians and adhere to road signs.  At demarcated pedestrian crossings, please stop behind the marked lane so that the pedestrians can walk through without fear,” advised Aiyambo.
