Pricilla Mukokobi

Renowned fashion designer, television personality, entrepreneur, model and children’s show creator Luis Munana is proud to be part of the Netflix reality television series ‘Young, Famous and African’ Season 2, set to commence on 19 May 2023.

The highly-anticipated series showcases the lives of young African influencers, entrepreneurs and creatives as they navigate their way to fame and success.

Munana, who is known for his exquisite style, designs and creativity, will be making his debut on the show as part of the cast which includes South African entertainment industry darling Bonang Matheba and Ghanaian-American rapper Fantana, as well as South African supermodel and actress Rosette Ncwana.

This season also sees the return of South African actress, media personality and businesswoman Khanyi Mbau; Nigerian actress and entertainer Annie Macaulay–Idibia; Tanzanian entrepreneur Zari Hassan; Tanzanian star and music heartthrob Diamond Platnumz; South African media personality Andile Ncube; Nigerian superstar stylist Swanky Jerry; South African DJ, radio host and reality TV celebrity Naked DJ; South African-Zimbabwean rapper and entertainer Nadia Nakai; South African fitness enthusiast and semi-professional footballer Kayleigh Schwark; and Nigerian music icon 2Baba Idibia.

Munana told VIBEZ!: “I am excited. It’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase my designs, and share my passion for fashion with the world. I am looking forward to working with the talented cast and crew, and being a part of this ground-breaking series”.

He is the creative director of Zuriel, an exclusive and luxurious men’s and women’s clothing and accessories brand.

Through Zuriel, he has established himself as a force to be reckoned with in the fashion industry, and will undoubtedly bring his unique perspective and expertise to the show.

Munana is set to appear in most of the episodes of the series with his impeccable style and eye for detail. He is sure to make a lasting impression on viewers, and inspire many with his designs and creativity.

On his experience filming thus far, he said it is quite different because of the way the film industry works in South Africa for Netflix; it is completely different from Namibia.

“Things are much bigger; it’s grand. Here we are on a small scale, compared to what they are doing that side. They will have 30 to 40 people behind the scenes, and that’s just for one scene. That is how crazy it is,” he observed.

The Big Brother Africa 2014 alumni added that his fans and followers will get to know him better since appearing on that reality TV show.

Munana, who is also the founder of the Windhoek Fashion Week runway show, said the show is perfect for him because he is young, African and talented, adding “it’s just that Namibians do not make it on a global scale like that”.

“The challenge facing the local entertainment industry is a lack of support from the government, or proper support. Entertainment is something that contributes to the GDP of our country. Support from the government is minimal in the sense that there’s no big budget allocated to the entertainment industry,” he reiterated.

The Golden Boy, as Munana calls himself, urged every Namibian to chase their dreams and to keep pushing, saying he didn’t get where he is by not pushing.

He was part of Forbes Africa 30 Under 30 class of 2019 at age 27. Munana was recognised as one of the 30 vibrant African leaders who are shaping, impacting and changing the African narrative.

The news of Munana’s involvement in the series has already created a buzz among his fans and followers, and congratulatory messages have been streaming in since.
