Visual artists called for exhibition on World Environment Day

In an effort to raise awareness about the pressing issue of plastic pollution, the City of Windhoek is calling on visual artists to submit artwork for an upcoming exhibition on 5 June 2023 in commemoration of World Environment Day.

The exhibition, themed ‘Solutions to Plastic Pollution’ aims to showcase creative ways to address this global environmental challenge and promote sustainable practices.

Visual artists from all walks of life are encouraged to participate and showcase their artwork made exclusively from plastic waste.

The event organisers are particularly interested in recycled products falling under the following categories: fashion (including clothing, jewellery, hats, bags, etc.), decorations (accessories and furniture), and engineering and tech/science artwork.

With a focus on promoting the use of recycled materials and upcycling, the exhibition aims to demonstrate how artistic creativity can contribute to finding sustainable solutions to plastic pollution. Artists are encouraged to think outside the box and present their innovative ideas through their artwork, inspiring visitors to adopt more environmentally friendly practices.

To encourage participation, the exhibition offers an array of exciting prizes for outstanding artworks that embody the theme of plastic pollution solutions. The prizes not only recognize artistic talent but also serve as an incentive for artists to continue exploring and developing sustainable practices in their work.

Registration forms for the exhibition can be accessed on the official Facebook page of the City of Windhoek.
