President Nangolo Mbumba called on police graduates to bolster the nation’s crime-fighting efforts by swiftly suppressing and preventing crime from gaining a foothold in society.
He made at these remarks while officiating the graduation ceremony of Police Basic Training Course 1 of 2023/24.
The training was conducted under the theme ‘Bravery is not the Absence of Fear, but Action in the Face of Fear’.
“The recruitment of these graduates into the Namibian Police Force will strengthen our police operations nationwide, as some will be posted to guard our borders to bolster security, and ensure that criminal elements are prevented from entering our country and disturbing the peace and stability we continue to enjoy and cherish,” Mbumba said.
He added that the influx of new police officers necessitates the establishment of new police stations to absorb the fresh personnel.
The cadet constables from all 14 regions have completed their nine-month basic police training.
Yesterday, the graduates performed the parade march-pass route and ceremonial steps to mark the colourful ceremony.
They will be deployed to various stations across the country to commence duty.
On the day, some senior police officers received medals for their service.
The President also handed over trophies to 16 police cadet constables for their outstanding performances during the training course.
On his part, Inspector General of the Namibian Police, Joseph Shikongo, reiterated the force’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Namibia’s inhabitants and visitors alike.
He urged the police cadet constables to serve their communities, and keep their boots on the ground.
