Tobias promises to deliver in Tanzania

OMUTHIYA – “I had a feeling and it didn’t really come as a surprise because I have been ready to serve the party and the nation in any capacity,” said the newly appointed ambassador to Tanzania Lebbius Tangeni Tobias.

In an interview with New Era, Tobias outlined his diplomatic blueprint, though he had previously downplayed speculations that he was to be sent on a diplomatic mission.

Speculations that a diplomatic post was coined for Tobias have been rife and now confirmed since his eleventh-hour withdrawal as a Swapo candidate for Tsumeb constituency during the party primaries in October.

He was appointed by President Hage Geingob last week. He served as constituency councillor for 16 years and also as chief whip in the National Council for the past five years.

Previously, Tobias had hinted at going into academia to add value to the educational fraternity, considering his teaching background. He is now pursuing a PhD in educational science in addition to his qualifications: certificates, diplomas and masters degree in business administration.

“I have been ready, so I am going to deliver on this assignment as entrusted by the head of state. I wasn’t certain something of this nature was coming my way, but all I can tell is I have been ready to serve in any capacity anytime – be it for the party or nation,” he reiterated.

Tobias said his mission is to deliver and foster diplomatic relationships between Namibia and Tanzania.
He aims at accelerating economic activities that will be beneficial for both countries. In addition, he says educational ties are also very important, as the two nations should seek to tap knowledge that can help push the development agenda.

“So, it’s an honour for me to be trusted as the capable person by the head of state. I am going to work hard and deliver. I am not going on a vacation. So, I will adhere to the economic diplomacy, among them. There are so many areas, including health, that I would like to forge ahead,” he concluded, saying he interested in making a difference than sharing an exodus of words.
