Vivo-Marathon returns…mayor donates N$50 000

In an effort to assist and bring services closer to underprivileged communities in the informal settlements of Windhoek, the mayor of Windhoek Queen Kamati urged residents to come in numbers and participate in the upcoming Vivo-Marathon.

During the launch of the marathon, held at Zoo Park in the capital on Friday, Kamati said last year’s edition was a success, looking at the total amount of, N$160 000 which was raised.

She added that a total of N$112 000 from that money was used to purchase books and two laptops for the Greenwell Matongo and Nathanael Maxuilili community libraries, while the remaining amount will be channeld to other community projects and social welfare programmes that fall within the provision of the trust.

“This donation aims to enrich the knowledge of our learners in subjects such as English, science, entrepreneurship and commerce to enhance access to educational resources in our community,” the city mayor said.

She also revealed that a total of N$50 000 from the mayoral trust will go towards the same cause this year.

Speaking to this publication on the sidelines, Vivo Energy’s corporate communications manager Lazarus Nafidi said this year’s event will be exciting, as they anticipate more people to participate.

“This year’s event will be quite exciting with more involvement from residents, corporates and new routes added to the race. This year’s proceedings will be used to help set up water points in the informal settlements.

“We encourage residents to come in numbers and register ,and add their value to the development of our beautiful city,” said Nafidi.

This year’s marathon is slated for 25 May.
