Wounded Eagles seeking redemption against Oman

Namibia’s senior cricket team, the Eagles, will today be out to resuscitate their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup League 2 campaign when they square off against an unpredictable Oman side at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium in Dubai.

Namibia opened this year’s League 2 campaign with a 110-runs win over Oman last Sunday, but their momentum somehow suffered a slight setback when they went down by three wickets to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Tuesday.

Going into today’s encounter, which marks their third match of the tournament, the Eagles will be eager to get back to winning ways against Oman, and Namibian coach Pierre de Bruyn will be expected to put up a similar game plan that saw the Eagles beating Oman in their opening match.

The Eagles will again be back in action tomorrow to take on the UAE, in what is expected to be another eye-catching encounter between the two sides, where the Namibians will be looking to atone for Tuesday’s defeat.

Thereafter, the Eagles will take to the field again to square off against Oman on Monday. Host nation UAE, Oman and Namibia are competing in a 50-over series, which forms part of the 2023 World Cup qualification process.

The ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 is the first edition of the ICC Cricket World Cup League 2, with all matches played as One Day Internationals (ODIs). Each set of fixtures are taking place as a tri-series.  - ohembapu@nepc.com.na
