2026 Nedbank for good Series tees off to support farmers

Nedbank Namibia launched the 2026 Nedbank for Good Series, officially marking the return of the national golf initiative with a focus on inclusive agricultural development through sport.

First introduced in 2020, the series has grown into a national platform that links competitive golf to structured community upliftment. Funds raised during the tournament support agricultural training projects across Namibia.

The event is held in partnership with Agra ProVision. Since becoming the beneficiary in 2024, the organisation has received more than N$500 000 by the end of the 2025 edition. The funding supports agricultural training in northern, southern and eastern Namibia, including programmes for persons with disabilities.

The 2025 tournament attracted 593 players taking part nationwide.

Series organiser Dan Zwiebel said the steady growth shows how corporate-backed sport can support skills development and inclusive economic participation at the grassroots level.

Funding raised in 2025 enabled Agra ProVision to conduct horticultural training at 14 sites between October and December 2025, including Groot Aub, Oshakati, Gobabis, Okahandja, and Mariental. A total of 206 participants were trained during this period, representing a 32% increase compared to earlier training in the same year.

Each participant received a starter pack containing five crop varieties, fertiliser, planting instructions and a planting calendar. According to the project closure report, these resources helped participants establish household gardens immediately, improving food security and creating opportunities to earn income from surplus produce.

“We do not focus too heavily on financial targets, but we will be thankful if we are able to reach our targets in 2026. Our priority is to expand awareness and increase field sizes, particularly at additional venues such as Okahandja, Outjo and Grootfontein that were introduced last year,” he said.

He added that, since its inception, the Nedbank for Good Series has raised close to N$1.5 million for different charity organisations and has reached more than 70% of Namibia’s golfing community. Participation in the Women’s division has grown steadily each year since its introduction in 2024.

Nedbank Namibia Chief Commercial Officer JG van Graan said, “Money experts who do good: the Nedbank for Good Series demonstrates how sport can be aligned with structured community empowerment.”

“By linking golf to agricultural training, we are contributing to national development priorities and enabling communities to participate more actively in local economic value chains.”
