A MILESTONE in the history of motorsport was reached, last week, with the launch of  the 45th TOTAL Tara Rally, which is being  held in Windhoek commencing on 21st November.

The event was officially launched last Wednesday night, with a N$500 000 sponsorship from Total Namibia, who has been involved in the Tara Rally since 1969. The three-day rally starts and ends at the Windhoek Sports Club (SKW).

This gruelling event will challenges man and machine against each other and the clock, with a lot  of preparation and planning  behind  the scenes. The organisers plan to make the Rally challenging for the teams, while also offering spectators the chance to see teams in action at various spectator-friendly points.

“With  TOTAL’s involvement in the sponsorship of motorsport spanning over fifty years, this can be attributed to the understanding by the company that, as consumers of its products, motor vehicle owners would benefit greatly from the knowledge gained through the testing of its products in high performance and endurance situations,” said TOTAL Namibia MD, Chris Hoffman.

Chairman of the organizing committee Harald Lingner, said during the sponsorship handover, “It gets more and more difficult to organize such an event , and to meet the requirements and expectations of the sponsors and competitors.

“ We therefore once again express our appreciation towards Total Namibia for their generous sponsorship and their continuous support in organizing the event.

“A satisfied sponsor is just as important as satisfied competitors and spectators,” he added, saying that a huge word of appreciation goes to the farmers around Wilhelmstal, the Windhoek and Okahandja Municipalities, as well as TransNamib for facilitating and making their roads available for the rally.”
